Long Overdue

I know, I know! I have been a major blogging SLACKER! This time of year always gets so busy for me. When the sun it shining and it stays light out so much later, it is hard for me to come inside and sit down in front of the computer. Plus, my green thumb starting itching profusely last weekend so I spent the majority of the weekend shopping for and planting my annuals. Have I ever mentioned I LOVE spring?!
The good news is, even thought I haven't been getting any blogging done, there has been more progress on our pole building! Sorry in advance if you don't share the same enthusiasm over this project as I do, but in my book, this is some seriously exciting stuff!!!!
Back up a few weeks to May 3th. The picture above and below were taken that day and they show the holes that were dug for the posts and sonotubes that were placed inside the holes in preparation for the concrete.
Then on May 6th, the crew returned and put up the posts. Then it started raining off and on for then next week and a half.
And as you can see by these pictures, it was a bit muddy around there. The day that I stopped to take these pics (Fri the 7th) it had been misting all day but I didn't think anything of it. As I was driving down at beautiful new driveway of ours, I began to slide on the greasy mud. I ended up sliding right off of the driveway and into the grass.
Not that big of a deal until I tried to drive OUT! It took me about 10 tries on various routes and had to resort to going cross country between two trees to FINALLY get enough traction to get out! Luckily I didn't rut it up too much ;)
Oh, and just in case I am boring you too much with structural pictures, here are a couple of pics of the kids playing tag in our yard! All dirty faced and loving life outdoors :)
Back to business!
After the monsoons were over, the skies parted and the job site finally dried out enough for the workers to return this past Monday (17th).
As you can see, they worked on framing up the sides and the back wall on Monday.
By the end of Tuesday the 18th (below) they had all of the trusses up and the majority of the slats on the roof (sorry to anyone out there who actually knows the technical terms for all of this building mumbo jumbo).
You can also see where the front service door is going to be (to the left of the overhead door) as well as the front window that is to the right.
And I just love the picture below.
It gives you a feeling of how big the inside will be. Of course, there will be some interior walls that break it up, but it is turning out bigger than I had imagined it to be. Duke was gone all week taking some continuing ed classes so he didn't get to see the progress until this evening. If I would have been a good blogger, I would have posted daily progress pictures, but I'm not, so he had to wait like the rest of you. Poor guy!
This is a picture of the south side of the building where there will be another overhead door and service door. Those will be the access to the area that we will be using as 'cold' storage ie. there will be in floor heat throughout the building but we most likely won't heat the back portion.
On to the final day of framing. By the end of Wednesday the 19th, the framing was completed and the exterior sheet metal was ordered.
I won't divulge the colors just yet though. Gotta leave something 'exciting' for the next post!
Now you can see the framing for the other window on the South side. There will be 5 windows in all and if you look hard, you can see one on the back gable end wall, one on the North side directly across from the overhead door and another on the North side near the front of the building.
As I was driving by this morning on my way to work, I passed the truck that was delivering the sheet metal and the windows. That is super exciting because, as long as the weather holds out, the crew will be back on Monday to start putting it up!
Oh, I can't wait to see the finished product! AND I can't wait to have more storage. Maybe I will actually be able to park my van in the garage for the FIRST time since I bought it almost 2 years ago!!!!
