I guess it is about time I update on the progress of our new shop...so here goes! You may want to pop a bag of popcorn and grab a drink cause this one is a doozy!!!
The metal showed up on Fri, May 21st and the construction crew was there bright and early on Mon the 24th to get started on the roof.
That day the completed the entire roof and the North side wall, including the windows. It was so cool to finally get a glimpse of what our color choices would look like in real life and not just on a color simulator online.
By the end of Tues the 25th they had the metal up on the East (gable) end as well the South sidewall.
I can not believe how quickly these pole barns can come together!
Luckily, the weather was in full cooperation for construction week because whenever it rains, the entire driveway and around the building turn to complete SLOP!
Here is a super exciting view of the soffit. It is a taupe color to match the windows, overhead doors and the service doors.

And by the end of Wed the 26th, this is how the project looked. (The overhead doors are still not in and we still have to paint the service doors, but you get the idea)
The plumber also worked on Wed to get everything ready for the floor drains, sinks, bathroom, etc.
And the kids enjoyed exploring and seeing all of the changes each day.

Now you have to be honest...what do you think of the colors? I know the garage doors aren't on yet and that will make a huge difference tying things together but use your imagination.
On Thurs the 27th the concrete guys were there prepping and getting the pits dug for the dyno and the motorcycle lift tables (sinking them into the floor so they are flush with the concrete)

A few days of rain ensued and then on Wed June 2nd, the concrete guys were back to prep the dirt and worked until about 10:30 pm. Then on Thurs June 3rd they came back around 4:30 pm to lay down the pink Styrofoam for underneath the the in-floor heat tubing as well as the tubing itself.
I had stopped after work and then returned later in the evening with snacks for the guys since they all missed eating supper.
I left around 9 pm to get the kids home to bed and the guys ended up burning the midnight oil and were there until after 1 am!!! They had to get all of the tubing laid because the concrete trucks were set to arrive at 6 am. Those poor guys must have been exhausted!!!
It had rained over night but that didn't stop them from moving forward with the concrete. There were 3 cement trucks there and the excavator's 2 dump trucks and equipment at 7:15 am when I drove by. It looked something like a construction circus if you ask me!
The excavator buried the holding tank and also pushed in and covered up an old house foundation that was in the woods by the road.
And no, the picture above is not a beer can grave. That is one of the 2 pits where the motorcycle lifts will go. As of today they have concrete bottoms but I haven't downloaded those pics yet as we had Grant's first night of T-ball tonight (a post on that is soon to come as well!)
The big pit that Grant is looking into is the one where the dyno will go. That too now has a concrete bottom. Below is a view from the back of the shed (the dyno pit is to the right and will be in it's own room and the other 2 pits are straight ahead and to the left.)
You don't think I would go an entire long boring post without rewarding you at the end with pictures of my two sweet kiddos, do you?
While hanging out on Fri evening with the concrete guys, Grant ate nearly half his weight in watermelon.
And Audrey is good for eating just about anything you put in front of her so she ate her fair share as well!
The concrete had to cure for 5 days or so before the construction guys can bring in their equipment to start insulating and framing the interior walls but, the 5 days is up, the insulation has been delivered so they should be there bright and early tomorrow to start on another round of progress!
Much like what we did today because we are getting hit with another huge storm (or at least we are supposed to be, but thus far there's only been a little snow and lotsa wind) but that is a whole nother story.
Since we finished all of our chores on Saturday, we deemed Sunday a fun day! It was in the 40's, sunny and the perfect day bundle up and head outside to climb the snowbanks and have a good old fashioned snowball fight!
Well...the kids did all of the snowball throwing and I dodged them while attempting to capture a couple of good action shots!
Roxy was even having a blast blazing through the snow drifts and chasing the stray snowballs.
This little stinker has a pretty darn good arm, too! Thankfully I was able to dodge all of his bullets :)

After all, it is moments like these that they will remember for years to come...or at least I know I will.
