Our entire family refers to Audrey as "Tootie" and pretty much have since before she was born. It all started one day when Grant was at daycare. Our daycare provider asked Grant what his new baby's name was going to be and in true 2 year old fashion, he replied, "Tootie...Tootie Headie." Of course Teresa burst out into laughter and had to share the news with m
e. I found it quite humorous also, so the nickname stuck, especially since we didn't find out the sex of the child and I was sick of referring to the baby as "it" or "baby." In a way, Audrey also earned the nickname Tootie her first night in this crazy world. She basically cried the entire night due to gas pains (pretty much mother induced because I just happened to eat a huge burrito for lunch and then went into labor at midnight!) Around 3 am this god-sent nurse came into my hospital room and instantly conforted Audrey, and oddly enough the nurse's name was Audra. She offered to take Audrey down to the nursery for a couple of hours so I could get a little rest and I gladly accepted the offer. When she brought her back about 3 hours later, she told me that Audrey tooted the entire time and stunk up the nursery so badly that they rolled her basinett into the far corner! HA! I laughed so hard at that visual!!! Hence, the nickname "Tootie". And boy is she going to kill me when she reads this some day!!!
As for Grant, he has too many nicknames to possibly list and every time I call him something different, he finds in necessary to correct me and say, "I'm not ..., I am Grant Alan!" Yesss, SIR!
He is truely a great little kid. Pretty much every day when I go to bed, I think of a Grantism that makes my heart smile. I will begin to share some with you as the days go by. Today's happened when we were baking a batch of chocolate chip cookies. Of course he had to "help" which in 3 year old terms is stir the batter and eat spoonfuls every time I turn by back!!! Anyhoo, when the first batch of cookies was done and the timer went off, Grant came running and yelled, "I smell me somthin sweet!" That kid is too funny for me.
It rained this entire weekend and my little Mr. Busybody entertained himself by building a pillow road that he could walk on so that he wouldn't fall in the lava! He practiced balancing and running back and forth for over an hour. Hey, as long as he was having fun! He has now been zonked out on the couch since about 7:45 pm...pretty much a world record for him. The kid can usually stay up later than me.
